Who we are...

Borodino United Methodist Church

"Community through Christ"

Welcome to the Borodino United Methodist Church homepage!

A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT US....

Our service begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings, year around. The service is usually finished by 11 a.m. Following the service, we offer wonderful, light refreshments downstairs in our fellowship hall; many of us stay for socializing and snacks.

We dress in what makes us comfortable for worship. Some of us wear ties, because we prefer to; some of us do not wear ties, because we prefer not to. Sandals and sneakers don’t bother us, in fact, our teenage organists have been known to play barefoot. We prefer to have you join us wearing your shorts, t-shirts, and sneakers than not at all.

A LOT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT US....

Established in 1852, we are located in Borodino, across from the park and gazebo.  There is ample room for parking across the street and an elevator for those who need one.  Our service begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings, year around and is usually finished by Noon.  Following the service, we offer wonderful, light refreshments downstairs in our fellowship hall; many of us stay for socializing and snacks.  We dress in what makes us comfortable for worship.  Some of us wear ties, because we prefer to; some of us do not wear ties, because we prefer not to.  Sandals and sneakers don’t bother us, in fact, one of our organists preferred to play barefoot.   We prefer to have you join us wearing your shorts, t-shirts, and sneakers than not at all.

We welcome young talent to share their musical abilities in our service.  In August 2005, we welcomed Hannah Waite, a young, talented pianist who provides the music during our services.  She quickly began to apply her skills to the organ during parts of our service and her skill on the keyboard is evident.  We enjoy her musical contributions to our service.

We like the hymns we’ve grown up singing; but are always willing to learn something new.   Given the material, we can usually catch on to a new song before the end of the first verse.  Again, our embrace of young talent is apparent in our choir director.  Rachel Mulcahy has just started as our Choir Director.  She has a strong background in music and a lovely voice.  We look forward to learning her strengths and showing off ours.

Our Methodist service includes a time of prayer and praise just before 10 a.m.  Bulletins are provided each Sunday for guidance to the service.   There are hymnals in each pew, some with large print, and the hymn numbers are provided in the bulletin to assist you.  There are also Bibles in each pew.  The Scripture reading is printed in the bulletin.  We make use of a projector to aid in the service with verses we regularly sing as well as at the beginning, for the praise and prayer time.  We conduct a Communion Service the first Sunday of each month.   Our Communion is served by intinction - each communicant is offered a piece of bread by the pastor, which they then dip into the cup held by the individual assisting with the service.  We serve unfermented or new wine.  All are welcome at the Lord’s Table, regardless of denomination.

Dr. Peter Agnew joined us as our pastor in July 2005.  He has been in the ministry for a number of years and recently moved from the mid-west.   He comes to us with his wife, Lois, and their son Peter.  Both of whom bring their own gifts to our congregational family.

Dr. Agnew is a skilled speaker; and we appreciate how well his sermons deliver the message.  We have formed a meaningful relationship with him and we look forward to our strong connection lasting for a number of years.  The Agnews have fast become members of our community.

Our congregation is loyal and caring with open minds, open hearts, and enthusiastic participation.  We have a prayer chain and encourage you to contact us if you have a concern you would wish for us to pray about with you or for you.  You could contact us in person, with a message on the church’s answering machine, 673-3806, or via e-mail at borodinochurch@aol.com.  We are small in number yet strong in faith and enthusiasm.  If you want to feel like you’re worshiping among family, the Borodino Church is the place for you.

We have a nursery for the little ones which is staffed by a professional child care provider each Sunday to attend to them should you choose to remain in the sanctuary.

Our Sunday School welcomes children beginning at the age of three.  The classes currently are held during the worship service.  The children attend the first portion of the church service, which includes Prayer and Praise, our opening hymn, Informal Greetings, the Call to Worship and the Children’s Sermon.  After the Children’s Sermon, they are escorted to class by their teachers.  The Sunday School year begins the first Sunday after Labor Day and runs to the end of May.  During the Christmas season, the students, (and anyone else who chooses to join in), spend a Sunday afternoon singing carols in the park gazebo; then we return to the church for warm refreshments.   Our Sunday School also performs on Children’s Day, at the end of the Sunday School year.

Our youth group welcomes all teenagers.  They take pleasure each year in selecting the tree for our sanctuary.  They also enjoy preparing and conducting the Easter Sunrise service.  They are active in the Earth Day clean up of our community, assisting older residents when needed, occasional camping trips, (which last year included a white-water rafting trip!) and caroling with the Sunday School students.  A few years ago, they rediscovered a fantastic sledding hill and often enjoy the winter wonderland our area can be.

We sponsor and support the Spafford Food Pantry with the donation box placed in our cloak room.   On any Sunday morning, or if you are in the church for a separate event, donations of non perishable foods and/or non food items can be placed in the box.   The Pantry is located in the Spafford Fire House.

And of course, along with all of this, we are your neighbors, friends, and relatives.  We are here if you need help, prayer, . . . or just to talk.
