About the Borodino Volunteer Fire Department

Borodino Fire Department Veterans MemorialThe Borodino Fire Department is one of two serving the Town of Spafford. We provide residential and farm properties with fire suppression and emergency services. We serve a population that increases by about 40% during the summer months. The department protects an area that includes shorelines of Otisco and Skaneateles Lakes.

Our Services

Fire    EMS   Search and Rescue   Extrication

The fire department supports the community by providing traffic control during events at the Grange Hall and park. We have been active in supporting events sponsored by the Historical Society and fund raising for the Spafford Veterans Memorial.

Many who are new to the area may not realize the members of the Borodino Volunteer Fire Department are your friends and neighbors who take time from their busy lives to serve the community. Volunteers come from all walks of life working both inside and outside the community. Membership in our department is currently at an all time low.

If you think you might be interested in becoming a volunteer and would like to know more you can ask a current member. It is also possible to arrange a meeting at your home or at the firehouse by calling Jerry Schinaman  315-673-9379.

Volunteers  Needed

  What are the Commitments?

  1. Pass a department physical

  2. Complete basic training - one evening per week for 26 weeks

  3. Annually attend at least: 6 membership meetings and 6 monthly drills

  4. Respond to alarms whenever possible

    Associate Members

In 2002, the department approved a new category of member, the Associate member. Anyone joining the department in this category would be asked to help with tasks around the fire house and fund raising efforts. We would be using their special expertise to help with department operations. These members will be welcome to attend all meetings and social functions. For more information e-mail Jerry Schinaman or  call 315-673-9379, or contact Adrienne Gant at 315-569-6925.
