Where was this photograph taken?
1. Here's an interesting puzzle. Maybe some viewer can solve it.
Where was this 1928 photograph by O. D, Von Englen (courtesy of
Bill Hecht) taken? So much of the terrain has returned to
woodland that it probably looks far different today.
My guess for the location would be Willowdale Road, south of
Moon Hill Road. Bill Hecht thought it might be higher, up on
Ripley Hill, but the lake isn't visible from up there, being
deeper in its valley, obscured by the hill at the left of the
photo.
2. In answer to my question, I suspect that a possible
location might be Becker Road, more or less where the lower
photo was taken, but the view could be from Willowdale, which is
parallel to Becker but a bit
lower--down where you see the red house beyond the hedgerow in
the
modern photo.
3. Looking at the map, and aligning features shown in the
more recent
photo, it does appear that it was taken from Becker Road, very
close to the south end where it intersects with Willowdale.
