Parking and safety in Borodino

To the editor:

During the summer Saturday puppet shows at the Grange, I witnessed dangerous traffic slowdowns in front of my home that required a sheriff to stop and direct busy car and truck activity through my town. A handful of smart EMT firemen, a talented law officer and 20 specially placed orange cones near my home aren’t always really necessary for a children’s puppet show are they? Safety first?

Fair play

I hope Spafford’s Town Board members Ireland and Joyce Barnett allow our group, BVEG (Borodino Votes for a more Efficient Government) to document our own private walk-through with our architects. It would be a conflict of interest if Crawford and Stearns is the only judge in this issue. Mr. Stearns was just at the Grange, was he not? Why didn’t the concerned SAHS members come prepared with relevant restoration costs, codes and pollution mandates and historical data about the Kissane property at the October town hall meeting?

SAHS is always critical of others’ unprofessional actions, yet, they themselves, are negligently slow in documenting and communicating with us taxpaying public. This is not good. Now my town board must come to a stop again, for something that should have been done with better planning and marketing on SAHS and Councilor Barnett’s part. She promised better communications when she ran for office. That’s why we started BVEG.

I believe that the Kissane property, like the Harris property, has been for sale for years. Both the town and SAHS know this. Anyone with an idea could have bought it. Anyone can still buy it. Should the historical Harris property be given the Titanic interest that the slummy Kissanes’ property is given? Yes. Why not put the librarian/historian’s office in a real historical building like the Harris’?

As a vocal SAHS member, I can say some of our unhistorical structures are not really part of our history, so we are not losing anything “one by one.” Are we? Yes, we must look back to see what others have done. Starting fresh is good. New ideas are good for a living history to mature.

Interested in helping girl power? Call Joe Vecchio, BVEG. If you can support us financially to buy the Harris property for a shop, store and café, respond to Joe’s Café at borodinobullett.com.
