Joyce Green's got the scoop on Borodino

Thursday, December 6, 2001

Sara Errington interviewed Joyce Green, editor of the Borodino Bullett, a Web site serving the Spafford area. The address is http://www.borodinobullett.com

Name: Joyce Green

Home address: East Lake Road, Borodino.

I've lived there? Five years.

I'm originally from: Liverpool

Why she's in the news: The Borodino Bullett celebrated its one-year anniversary Oct. 13. I launched it deliberately on Friday the 13th.

How did the Borodino Bullett start? The original Borodino Bullett was a three-issue newsletter Joe (Vecchio) did three years ago. It was all political and very irreverent. I took the title from that and intended it to be a community bulletin board.

What's on the Bullett? There are announcements and a community message board. People send me pictures of newborn calves, turkeys. Joe's Cafe (forums) has been very active with everything from topics about rebuilding Borodino to what to do about getting a new grocery store. The newsletter section is my favorite part.

What's next for the Bullett? People will be able to input their events in real-time. The Spafford Fire Department asked if they can have a Web page. On-line postcards of Spafford. I've thought about marketing T-shirts and sweatshirts.

Occupation: Computer technician at Unisys. I design Web sites on the side. I do BOCES Web sites, among other ones. The Bullett is the only one I do for fun.

People would be surprised to know: I was a landscaper for 16 years. I owned my own businesses. Both jobs require an ability to see what isn't there.

When I'm not working, I like to: garden and read newspapers.

What I would change about my community: I'm on the committee to build a veterans memorial. I'm very much hoping the community will get together and help the veterans memorial take off.

The strangest lawn ornament in my neighborhood: was "The Wall." The property owner built a wall out of plywood.

Family: Partner, Joe Vecchio; cat, Kitty.

Advice I would give the president: Hang tough.

Favorite food: coffee

Food I despise: I don't have a food I despise

Favorite place to see a movie: my living room

Favorite place for a cup of coffee: McDonald's. It's the only thing I like there.

If I could invite four people to dinner (dead or alive) they would be: G. Gordon Liddy, Rush Limbaugh, Joyce Carol Oates, Joe Vecchio

If I won the lottery: I would rebuild the town and rename it Joyceville. I would be the empress of Joyceville and Borodino would become a theme park. I would direct deposit $1 million cash into the checking accounts of town residents for them to spend at will.
