PRESERVATION GRANT PROGRAM (HPG)
FACT SHEET
1. WHAT IS THE HPG PROGRAM?
HPG is
a home repair program funded and administered by Onondaga County Community
Development Division and USDA Rural Development. Eligible homeowners can
receive a maximum grant of $10,000 to cover the costs of various home repairs.
Lead paint hazards may qualify the
owners for an additional $10,000.
2. WHO IS ELIGIBLE Homeowners:
a. who live in the Towns of
Fabius, Otisco, Spafford and Tully and/or the Villages of: Elbridge,
Fabius, Jordan, Minoa, Marcellus, Skaneateles, and Tully,
b. who have owned and occupied
the property at least one year,
c. whose property taxes are
current at the time of the application,
d. whose property is covered by
Homeowners Insurance, and
a. whose household size and
annual gross household income fall within the guidelines listed below:

3. HOW MUCH WORK CAN BE DONE ON MY HOME IF I QUALIFY?
Community
Development will arrange to pay for the actual cost of necessary home repairs,
up to a maximum of $10,000. This does not mean that each grant recipient is
automatically entitled to the maximum grant.
4. WHAT KIND OF WORK CAN THE
GRANT PAY FOR?
Repairs
to mechanical systems, such as water supply, waste disposal, plumbing, heating,
and electrical. Repairs to the structure, such as roofs, foundations, porches,
and stairs. Installation of safety and energy related items, such as deadbolt
Jocks, smoke detectors, grab bars, storm windows, and insulation.
Lead Hazard reduction as required by HUD Lead- Based Paint Regulations.
5. DO I HAVE TO PAY
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT?
No.
HPG is a grant program and does not require repayment unless the property is
sold or transferred within 5 years of job completion.
6. WILL THERE BE A LIEN
PLACED
ON NY PROPERTY?
If
the property is sold or transferred within 5 years from
the date of
completion, the grant must be repaid.
