March 27, 2001 back to Chris Fesko Interview FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Northeast Farm Communicators Association Presents Awards The Northeast Farm Communicators Association awarded certificates of excellence to participants in the Nor’Easter Contest during its spring meeting March 23 and 24 in Meriden, Conn. Chris Fesko of Chris Fesko Enterprises, Skaneateles, N.Y., was named the Farm Communicator of the Year and awarded a plaque, and $500 donated by Agri-Mark Inc. dairy cooperative. The contest recognizes the best in writing, photography and broadcasting media covering Northeast agriculture. It was administered by Ed Slusarczyk of Ag Radio Network in Utica, N.Y., and judged by the Journalism Department of Utica College under the direction of Dr. Kim Landon. Other winners were: Best on-farm feature – Judy Powell, freelance. Best agricultural news story – John Vogel and Jeanette Marvin, Farm Progress Companies. Best column or editorial commentary: – Eleanor Jacobs, Northeast DairyBusiness. Best agricultural series: John Vogel, Jeanette Marvin, Kelly Fuerstenberg and Carol Greathouse, Farm Progress Companies. Best agricultural photo/image: Jeanette Marvin, Farm Progress Companies. Best agricultural news release: Kirsten Ferguson, American Farmland Trust. Best agricultural newsletter: Kelly Fuerstenberg, Red Pen Publishing. Best one-time project: Diane Baedeker Petit, Massachusetts Department of Food and Agriculture. The Northeast Farm Communicators is an organization of professional reporters, writers, editors, broadcasters, public relations specialists and other agricultural communicators throughout New England and the Northeast. Among other activities, the organization publishes the NEFC Service Directory, a guide to agricultural information in the Northeast. The 70-page, 4-inch by 8.5-inch booklet lists NEFC members and 600 contacts in the agriculture industry. The cost is $3.
