Q. Good Morning, Jeff! I want to thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for the Bullett.
(Remember in a weak moment last week you agreed to do this via e-mail?)
These days everyone seems so busy and stretched in many directions. And with all the
hats you wear, how will you juggle work, family and politics if nominated Town Council.
A. The same way I always have balanced work, family and outside responsibilities (i.e.
committees, boards, community service). By prioritizing and organizing my time, I am
able to balance all aspects of my life. I give 100% to everything I am involved in and if I
didn't think I could dedicate myself wholly to this, I wouldn't have ran. I believe people
have to make time for things that are important, and one of the most important contributions one can make is to their community.
Q. As someone who's new to the area (we've lived here 6 years), I notice that people new to
the area generally seem to take a more progressive stance on changing the face of this
community. You've lived here in the Town of Spafford all your life, is there anything you'd
change?
A. People move here for the unparalleled beauty and country-setting Spafford has to offer.
However, every community can be enhanced. I am very concerned about Otisco and
Skaneateles Lakes and protecting them with conservation and watershed practices. The
environment is extremely important to me and that is why my farm is fully engaged in the
Soil and Water Conservation Programs. I have a young daughter and as with any parent
am concerned about the economic and environmental future for her generation. I believe
it is important to support and encourage small businesses here, but there needs to be a
balance between economic growth and preservation of our rural community.
Q. What changes do people tell you they would like to see?
A. Overall residents say they love this community and that is why they live here (and in
many cases families stay for generations.) Everyone has their own opinion on what can
be done to improve this community. In my opinion based on the conversations I have
had with the residents, most seem to like the way things are and don't want to see drastic
change. However, I look forward to working with the people to balance changes that will
benefit all residents.
Q. Who's your opponent? Is there a Democratic candidate?
A. I am running unopposed and there is no Democratic candidate.
Q. As I told you in an earlier e-mail, I am a registered Conservative. I live with a registered
Democrat. Short of bribery, how can I convince him to vote for you this November?
A. Advise him that I am a hard-working , honest individual. I'm the 5th generation of my
family in Spafford, and plan to spend the rest of my life here. Therefore, the people of
this community are very important to me. I respect their opinions and diversity and
welcome their input. I am an open-minded individual and believe that a person's
political preference should not play a role in our objective as residents of Spafford. I feel
it is imperative to maintain and enhance areas that provide a community with efficient
services, a healthy living environment rich in community involvement, maintained through
a conservative operational budget that would not burden taxpayers.
Q. Your father is well-respected and fair. Do you think you'll do a better job?
A. I hold my father in the highest of regard. My Dad is Town Supervisor – not Town
Councilman. My father has done, and continues to do an excellent job. If elected, I feel I
can learn from him and his fellow board members. I'm my own person and I feel I can do
a commendable job.
I really do appreciate your time, and I hope this was painless.
Sincerely,
Joyce Green, Borodino Bullett
