Wednesday April 3rd, 7:30 pm, Waterman Elementary School, Skaneateles "Caring for Our Lakes and Watersheds: Present and Future," sponsored by the Tri-Country Skaneateles Lake Pure Water Association. Learn the relationship between watersheds and water quality, the effect on our lakes of invasive species and land development, and what is being done to preserve the quality of our lakes for the future. Speaker Scott Kishbaugh, P.E., Environmental Engineer in the Lake Services Section of the NYS Bureau of Watershed Management, is the Director of the NYS Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program (CSLAP), technical advisor to lake associations throughout the state, and primary author of Diet for a Small Lake. "Integrated Pest Management: reducing dependence on dangerous chemicals," sponsored by the Spafford Area Garden Enthusiasts (SAGE). Master Gardeners Debbie Smith, Keith MacBain and Cynthia Loring MacBain will explain what Cornell's Integrated Pest Management is and how people can apply the methods to their home gardens. Maggie Conley of the Skaneateles Watershed Agricultural Management Program will be on hand to answer questions. Thursday, April 25th, 7 pm, Skaneateles Library (place to be confirmed) "Pesticides and our Health," sponsored by Skaneateles AAUW. Dr. William Sawyer will discuss the various chemicals found in commonly used pesticides and their effects on the body and human health. Resources to help read pesticide labels will be available, as well as information on the latest research on the relationship between certain pesticides and cancer Saturday, April 27th, 2 pm, Center for Nature Education at Baltimore Woods, Marcellus "Collecting Crayfish, Cramflies and More," sponsored by the Center for Nature Education. Children with their parents will identify and release aquatic insects to study the health of the creek. Dress to get wet. Meet at the Mills Street entrance to the Skaneateles Nature Trail.
