 This weeks feature story:

PIRNIE REPORT #2002
The Bullett received copies of (2) new memos recently sent to Spafford Town Councilmen and Town Supervisor by Peter Pirnie. [Read more here...]

As reported in the December Issue of The Bullett, the Town of Spafford plans to use a $90,000 Community Development Grant to try to purchase Fesko's IGA on the corner of Rt. 174 and Rt. 41 in Borodino--to demolish.

Some folks at the December Town Board Meeting objected to this, Dr. Pirnie being one of them. Town Supervisor, Gordon Ireland explained why the Town was proceeding in this manner. [Read The Bullett minutes of December Town Board Meeting here.]   To summarize:
Step 1--The Town's will attempt to buy Fesko's, raze it, and leave the lot empty.
Step 2-- Involves buying the adjoining property (site of the former Mini Mall, Liquor store and greenhouses).
Step 3-- Using the Community Development grant for some sort of Community Recreation center.

Do you agree with the Town of Spafford's proposal to try to purchase Fesko's IGA?

THE BORODINO BELOW-STANDARD
(by Joe Vecc)

Cleansed of references to the owners of the Post- Standard, and returning without fanfare, the Borodino Below-Standard is Joe's humble offering to the pile of manure that is his journalistic integrity. This week's topic: "Families may sue Spafford over fatal car crash."

SPAFFORD FIRE DISTRICT
Spafford Fire District meeting was held January 9. Commissioner John Korcz  announced the organizational meeting for the year. It was held at the Spafford Fire House, located on Route 41 S.

BORODINO FIRE DEPARTMENT
What happens when this all-volunteer Fire Department is dispatched to your home? Did you know that 75% of their calls are medical in nature, and not fire-related? The Borodino Fire Department has a new web page (hosted by The Bullett) in hopes of increasing public awareness and involvement.  Membership is down, and new volunteers are sorely needed.

In a news article in this week's Neighbors West, Dick Clarke, Crime & Safety Writer, interviews Borodino Fire Department President, Matt O'Brien about their need for community support and new recruits.

BORODINO'S  "BEST AND WORST OF 2001"
Best:  Gazebo built in Borodino Park by community members, shows what you can do with a dream and persistence.

Worst: Two teens, John Pepper, 15, and Ryan Schoonmaker, 16 of Camillus, died in car accident Aug. 30, when Pepper lost control of the car on Willow Hill Road, striking a tree. Two "notices of claim" were filed against the Town of Spafford by the families.

Best:  Community members paint a huge American flag on the parking lot of Fesko's IGA.

THE WORLD OUTSIDE BORODINO

WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT THE BULLETT:

' This site is really interesting, funny, classy, neighborly, hits summer at home and is just plain nifty & original.

We (my family have a camp near Borodino) have just stumbled on to your site and wanted to say, it is so neat, so original & you bet, so much at home for all of us, I think I can speak for our whole family on that.

The Borodino breakfast's are a way of life, necessity and fun for us, during the summer. Not to mention, we miss the Doris's store too...'
