DOWN ON THE FARM WITH CHRIS FESKO
Written for The Bullett under the influences of the cold and flu, Chris Fesko, our Guest Writer scratches out  "The Mad Rooster of Woodworth Road."

    REPORT: TOWN BOARD MEETING

The Town Board meeting was Thursday, December 13th. Merrill Clark of the Spafford Town Highway Dept. gave an update on road work completed on Connor Rd. Clark said the work on Masters Rd. will be finished next year, and work at Spafford Landing is also slated for next year.

IF YOU SEE LOW FLYING PLANES OVER SKANEATELES LAKE

Doug Staley gave us a heads-up on the DEC meeting with the Town of Spafford. Staley says the DEC will be surveying, as part of a County-wide upgrade of it's watershed flood maps. Staley: "The last map was done in 1982, and they're not too accurate." "Anyone on the lake now paying flood insurance may see their insurance rates go down." (as a result of this project). Staley also told the Board that he had 61 appointments, 282 inspections,  brought in well over $5,000 in building permits, and almost a dozen new houses are to be constructed in the community over the next year.

    NEW CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY IN BORODINO

Barn-Raising on December 15th at the Vinzant's on 1789 E. Lake Road. Picture supplied by Bill Vinzant.

Vinzant's future plan, on file at the Town Hall.

When asked if they didn't think the planned structure perhaps a bit ostentatious for Spafford, Bill Vinzant replied: " It's not just for the cows, you know. It's for the cats and mice."

We will have a full report in the January Issue of the Bullett.

    COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANT

Gordon Ireland spoke to a large gathering at last Thursday's Town Board Meeting, "I know there has been a problem with the four corners for a considerable amount of time." Ireland asked the Board's permission to negotiate a purchase offer to the Gulinos for ownership of the corner building (aka Fesko's Grocery). " [Read more...]

    GERARD'S FIRE HOUSE REPORT

Gerard Marcheterre has been a volunteer member of the Borodino Fire Dept. since April 1997. Find out how to volunteer on the Borodino Fire Department's new web page,  by Jerry Schinaman, and hosted by the Bullett. Volunteer fire fighters respond to a fire on Nunnery Road.  [More...]

    BURN DOWN THE HOUSE---OR NOT

Dave Miller says you "can't just burn a building down just to help a homeowner get rid of it."  There. Just in case there are those of you that thought you could. At last Thursday's Town Board meeting, Dave Miller clarified the role of the Board of Fire Commissioners, 5 elected officials each serving a 5-year term. The Fire Commission is separate from the Fire Dept. and provides contractual services, and purchases equipment. The Treasurer (also Dave Miller) is responsible to the Comptroller. No money is exchanged between the Board of Fire Commissioners and the Fire Department.

SPAFFORD'S RECREATION  FUNDS GO TO AMBER YOUTH RECREATION
Debbie Grousset asked the Board to again waive Spafford's Recreation program funds from NY State, to Amber for their Youth Recreation Program. The Board approved it, since the deadline is 12/28 to apply for funds for the coming year, and Spafford does not have a recreation program. "If you don't use it, you lose it."

    THE PIRNIE REPORT
Newest letter dated December 10th to the Spafford Town Board Re: Minimum testing required for the 2  properties at the "Four Corners."  December 6th letter to the Spafford Town Board, including a copy of the response to Dr. Pirnie's letter from  Secretary of State. Dr. Pirnie's Nov. 19th  letter to Spafford Town Supervisor and Councilmen.

Editor's Note: Dr. Pirnie was present at last week's Town Board meeting, but was silent as a church mouse, leaving the questions to the Board up to his wife. [Read more...] Pirnie to Joe Vecchio: "I do my fighting in print."

    KEN'S KABLE UPDATE:
    Date: 27 Nov 2001
    From: Ken Lieberman

Verizon has completed their phone wire relocations. Alltel and NYSEG have not completed their work. Adelphia should start construction of the fiber optic interface next week.
