PART II.  This weeks photos of  Rt. 41.

In regards to the:  DEPUTIES TARGETING TRASH TRUCKS on Route 41:

" Is the Mayor of Skaneateles going after homosexuals"  next?,  asks  Paul F. Graff from Chittenango in regards to the Mayor's efforts to redirect unsympathetic  truck traffic around the small town of Skaneateles and Borodino.  After reading  this reader's editorial in last weeks Post Standard,  I asked myself one question:  " Where do these letters come from?".  I believe letters  like Paul's ( see Monday,  August 12, 2002 ) editorial page  would never be created if the articles about this issue were better produced.

Lets look at Route 41 below.  From Mr. Mariani's article,  you  learn nothing about this road.

Rt. 41 South

1.  People walk and ride daily through this narrow side-way. Three and a half feet separate you from the railing and the fast moving vehicles. These rails are many in number.

2. Most of the homes in the town of Borodino are very close to the road. These homes are not owned by wealthy people. So drop the Skaneateles stereotypes. The truckers live in better homes. And live on safer streets. " Rt. 41 was not made for highway traffic," said one truck driver we interviewed. In this picture you can see the Grange youth center on the left.

The speed limit is 40.  But  98% of all trash trucks speed past going 50 to 60 mph.  This is a residential area. No trucker would want you speeding in their neighborhood.  Borodino came before the contract to transport heavy materials throughout upstate NY.
Here we see a speeding truck. Hope he doesn't hit the kids crossing the street ahead.

"Watch out you kids."  I scream daily.

I've almost been hit twice when the trash trucks cross over the double yellow lines  near 5 mile point. I love all the curves. Never know when the big one is coming.  See you in the hospital.

When they close the small concrete bridge in Skaneateles, the traffic will slow down. But 41A can be used next year.

Wait a minute. I hear one coming down the hill in Borodino. He's going at least 55 or 60. I love it.
