RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING

Minutes    7/29/06 2:00 pm at town hall    revised 8/6/06

Present: Sid Hoover, Merrill Clark, Joyce Green, Patti O'Brien, and Barry Kahn

1.) Spafford Forest

Merrill says the rainy weather has prevented further work. The county has provided 6 loads of gravel, and the town has spread the gravel--to create a parking area. They will lay fabric and spread 6 more loads of gravel.

2.) Scott Walking Trail

Too wet to do more, waiting for it to dry up. ETA is September to complete. Merrill says the channel is very high. Contact Jerry Scott re: spraying poison ivy. On 8/1/06 Joyce Green sprayed the poison ivy in & along the walking trail at Scott park (up to the plywood) with Roundup.

Electrical has been run to the pavilion. The charcoal grills have been fixed. Anyone interested in reserving the pavilion can call Marilyn Mowry at 607-749-4461.

3.) High Hickory Meeting with Save The County Land Trust: August 15 at 7 PM.

Merrill suggested we meet with Save The County Land Trust Tuesday, August 8th at 7 pm. Joyce needs to contact them to confirm.  NOTE CHANGE: Meeting with STC at High Hickory (Richard Rd.) is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15 at 6:30 pm. All Recreation members asked to attend. We will discuss adding a parking area. STC will go over deed restrictions and share ideas.

4.) Meetings changed to last Wednesday of the month at 7 PM.

Next meeting will be held Wednesday, August 30 at 7 pm at town hall.

5.) "Lake Access"

Merrill said he has an issue with realtors using Borodino Landing in their advertising. He would like the board to send a letter to realtors asking them not to do this. Merrill says Frank Moran has been talking with Lourdes Camp. They say local residents may use the beach in the fall only. Merrill will follow up on a letter sent to Jim Rhinehart regarding a boat launch for Spafford residents.

Merrill talked with the DEC in Cortland. They said they don't have money for a launch site, but hope to in the future. The marina is for sale on Otisco Lake, and the DEC would like to buy it if they can obtain funding.

6.) The Causeway

Barry Kahn asked about improving the causeway. Merrill said we have no plans to do that at this time.

UPDATE: 8/5/06----- An invoice for (3) benches was submitted to Lisa at town hall ($25 each payable to Al Rowland).
