RECREATION COMMITTEE

MINUTES

Present: Dave Miller, Merrill Clark, Sid Hoover, Jim Clark and Joyce Green

High Hickory

We should list the restrictions we would like to see eased.

Merrill contacted Onondaga County. They will look at High Hickory to see if a parking area is possible, and if a culvert pipe is needed.

Jim Stalter is the county engineer that does driveways. Even though the proposed driveway area is on a knoll, we still need a permit.

Supposed to have 550' visibility both ways if 55 mph (and it is).

Spafford Forest

Still waiting for gravel from the County. Merrill said he thought it would be delivered today, but it didn't work out. The roll of landscape fabric is ready to go.

Dirt Bikes--they have been spotted but not allowed in.

Whalen--will give us a sign 'No Motorized Vehicles'

Outlet is Bucktail Rd.

Burroughs, Woothey--there are some privately owned tracts; some area is county land.

Need 2 signs--end of Craig Rd. and end of Pucker's (sp.?)

Snowmobile Club.

Trail maintenance is needed if 4-wheelers are shut out; the four-wheelers maintain it now.

Promoting the area--signs are coming.

Scott Park

15 kids from Spafford participated.

Marilyn Mowrey-ask for photos for website

Walking trail has been too wet!

A work day has been scheduled, weather depending, for September 9 (Saturday) at 9 am. to lay fabric and skim gravel.

Budget for 2007

Spafford town budget planning starts in September.

Merrill asked the town of Scott what they need.

Andy Fuller (Scott maintenance) noticed donations missing from donations box.

Recommend giving an extra $500 (total of $1500) to Scott.

2006--$8500 actual parks program--we don't know what the balance is. Merrill will contact Tom Chartrand.

Promotion

Better signage may be needed: "Support the Boat Launch, Park Facilities and Kid's Summer Program."

Before and After shots of Scott Park.

Town newsletter submissions due the end of September.

Dave Miller suggested both fire departments have a family picnic @ Scott Park.

The Senior center has lunches there at the pavilion.

Next meeting: September 27, 7 pm at town hall.
